Cathodic Protection market leaders BAC Corrosion Control Ltd (BAC) have recently been awarded a prestigious accolade by civil engineering leaders JN Bentley. In the 2009 Subcontractor Performance Awards BAC was ranked in the top 25 contractors out of a total of 452 contractors currently on Bentley’s approval system.
To compile the league table, JN Bentley’s project teams applied a simple weighted scoring system to every completed order against a set of categories to calculate an overall performance score with 1 being the maximum score. (1 = excellent performance, 2.75 = satisfactory and 5 = poor.)
The following criteria were investigated:
- Quality of product and workmanship
- Communication and level of service provided
- Timeliness of delivery and adherence to programme
- Attention to health & safety Issues
- Attention to environmental issues
- Innovation and design Ideas
- Submission of method statements, risk assessments & COSHH information
- Submission of test certificates, operation & maintenance information and as built drawings
- Invoicing and application for payment (timeliness & accuracy)
- Changes to order and variations from initial scope
In 2009, the minimum acceptable standard for their 452 subcontract suppliers remained set at 2.75 and 1,869 Performance Reports on orders were conducted. The average score for all suppliers in 2009 was 1.98, which (without rounding) was a slight improvement on 2008, continuing the trend for year on year improvement over the last six years.
Only a very small minority failed to meet the minimum acceptable standard in 2009, and with many more exceeding it than in previous years, the minimum score to achieve a place in the Top 25 list increased by 10%.
BAC hopes to build on their relationship with JN Bentley in the future, working together on continuing projects and progressing onto new projects in the future.
Anglian Water’s expansion of Rutland Water and Wing treated water pipeline is a project that BAC and JN Bentley are currently working on and is presently the UK’s largest water project. It is also the largest scheme ever undertaken by Anglian Water. JN Bentley are the lead civil engineering company and BAC is providing specialist Cathodic Protection materials and services.
